Mission Trip 2008—July 26th to Aug 5th
About 48 missionaries from several different states and churches will journey this Sat, July 26th to Nicaragua for a spiritual week and evangelistic tour. This years agenda includes the medical team helping to establish a congregation of Christians on the remote island of Ometepe. Our brave committed workers are listed below. Please prayer for success and safety as we, with God’s help, extend the boundaries of His Kingdom.
Kent King: Kent is a Family Practice physician and mission director from Chisholm Trail in Duncan. During the week Kent will be the director of the mission and will be treating patients. This is Kent’s 15th Nicaragua Medical Mission.
Abby King: Abby is the mission coordinator and pharmacy director from Chisholm Trail in Duncan. During the week Abby will be in charge of all aspects of the pharmacy and coordinating hotels, work assignments, etc. This is Abby’s 11th Nicaragua Medical Mission
Kendra Mobley: Kendra is a senior early childhood education major at Oklahoma Christian University and daughter of Kent and Abby King. She attends church at Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, OK. During the week in Nicaragua Kendra will be working in the pharmacy and working on the lunch crew. This is Kendra’s 8th Nicaragua Medical mission.
Raymond Mobley: Raymond just graduated from Oklahoma Christian University and will begin work on a marriage and family therapy master’s degree at OSU in the fall. He is married to Kendra (King) Mobley and attends church at Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond. In Nicaragua Raymond will work with the construction crew and use his singing talents to perform a concert for the children at the orphanage at the picnic on Sunday, August 3. This is Raymond’s 2nd Nicaragua Medical mission.
Katy King: Katy is a junior public relations/advertising major at Oklahoma Christian University and attends church at Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond. In Nicaragua Katy is in charge of lunches for the group every day. She will also work in the pharmacy. This is Katy’s 7th Nicaraguan Medical mission.
Kaleb King: Kaleb is a junior at Marlow High School from the Chisholm Trail Church in Duncan. In Nicaragua Kaleb will work on the construction crew and lead singing at the devotionals. This is Kaleb’s 6th medical mission to Nicaragua.
Ray Collins: Ray is a captain at the Lawton fire department from Chisholm Trail Church of Christ in Duncan. Ray is the construction crew leader. They will be building some picnic tables, shelving and outdoor rain shelter during their week in Nicaragua. This is Ray’s 11th Nicaraguan Medical mission.
Lisha Collins: Lisha is a first grade teacher at Marlow Elementary from the Chisholm Trail Church in Duncan. In Nicaragua Lisha will be working in the pharmacy. This is Lisha’s 8th Nicaragua medical mission.
Edwina Bristol: Edwina is a retired clerk from Enos, Oklahoma. She worships with the Church of Christ in Enos. In Nicaragua Edwina will be in charge of liquid medications in the pharmacy. (Sometimes a messy job !!) This is Edwina’s 4th Nicaraguan medical mission. She and her husband, Ed help Abby recruiting volunteers to prepare the medicines for the trip. She and Ed are critical helpers in the work of love.
Ed Bristol: Ed is a retired sheriff from Murray County who now lives in Enos, Oklahoma and worships with the church there. In Nicaragua Ed will be our purchasing agent and in charge of security. This is Ed’s 3rd Nicaraguan medical mission. Ed and Edwina are married and a blessing to have as friends of the mission before, during and after the trip.
Amber Milligan: Amber is a sophomore at Elmore City High School. Amber was baptized at the Elmore City church last year the day after the Nicaraguan Medical mission. (Way to go, Amber !!) In Nicaragua Amber will be helping with painting Winnie the Poo scenes at the girl’s house at the orphanage and working with the children’s Bible Classes. This is Amber’s 3rd medical mission to Nicaragua.
Becky Durham: Becky is a member of the Britton Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. She will be working in the pharmacy during the mission trip. This is Becky’s 2nd Nicaraguan medical mission.
Mary Benke: Mary is from Wynnewood, Oklahoma and is a Nicaraguan medical mission rookie. She will be working in the pharmacy during the mission. She is Ed Bristol’s sister.
Wilbert Williams: Wilbert has a construction company in Kingston, Oklahoma. He will be assisting with the construction crew building picnic tables and a rain shelter for the orphanage. This is Wilbert’s first Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Charla Jordan: Charla is the Spanish teacher at Marlow High School. She will be translating for the dental crew while in Nicaragua. Charla has been to Nicaragua 8 times with the mission and has been a great help with translating documents.
Danielle Bailey: Danielle is a senior pre-med major at the University of Oklahoma from Marlow. She learned Spanish while studying abroad in Peru. She will be translating for Dr. Cindy Norman while on the mission trip. This is her first Nicaraguan Medical Mission. She is a fellow Marlow H.S. graduate of Kendra (King) Mobley.
Mario Pineda: Mario is the preacher at the Prairie Hill Church of Christ south of Duncan, Oklahoma. He speaks Spanish and is helpful in Nicaragua in translating sermons at church services and in greeting our patients and answering their questions. This is Mario’s 7th medical mission to Nicaragua.
Marilyn Pineda: Marilyn is a teacher at Comanche Elementary School and is the wife of Mario Pineda, preacher at Prairie Hill Church of Christ. In Nicaragua she will be the leader of the Children’s Bible Classes. She and Mario will hold a meeting with the Nicaraguan church leaders instructing them on Leadership Training for Christ. This is Marilyn’s 7th Nicaragua Medical Mission
Allison Reed: Allison grew up in the Prairie Hill Church of Christ and now is a ultrasound tech at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. Allison assists in the children’s Bible class during her time in Nicaragua. This is Allison’s 4th Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Stevie White: Stevie is a junior biology major at Oklahoma Christian University. She grew up at the Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Stevie will be assisting the dental hygienist while in Nicaragua. This is her first medical mission to Nicaragua. She is a friend of Katy King.
Brody Gustafson: Brody is a junior history major at Oklahoma Christian University. He grew up in Hutchinson, KS. Brody will be on the construction crew while in Nicaragua. This is Brody’s first Nicaraguan medical mission. He recently spent his summer recruiting for OC at area christian youth summer church camps. He is a friend of Katy King.
Meredeth Griffin: Meredeth is a sophomore engineering major at Oklahoma Christian University. She attends the Britton Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. Meredeth will be assisting in painting Winnie the Poo scenes at the girl’s house at the children’s home and working with the children’s Bible classes. This is her first Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Ashley Battison: Ashley graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in religious studies. She is a veteran of the Nicaragua Medical missions with this being her 7th year. She helps in the preparation of lunch each day and works in the pharmacy. Ashley and her parents are some of the original supporters of the work in Nicaragua and our children’s home, Los Ninos del Rey. She is starting her master’s program this Fall.
Ryan Nichols: Ryan is from Bray, Oklahoma. He will be working on the construction crew in Nicaragua. This is his second year on the medical mission. He is Ashley Battison’s boyfriend and they attend the Mayfair Church of Christ. He is a History Ed major at OCCC in Oklahoma City.
Ryan Taylor: Ryan is a sophomore at Marlow High School. He is a Spanish student of Charla Jordan. He will be working with the construction crew while in Nicaragua. This is his first Nicaraguan medical mission.
Lynn Stephens: Lynn is retired and is living between Lake Taylor in Duncan and Del City and attends the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ. He will be working on the construction team building picnic tables and a rain shelter for the children at the orphanage. This is Lynn’s second Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Jerry Alexander: Jerry is retired, lives in Duncan and attends the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ. He will be working on the construction crew. Jerry speaks a little Spanish and loves to play with the children at the orphanage. This is his second medical mission trip to Nicaragua. He is retired from heavy construction and pipeline welding and spent many years in Central and South America.
Jerry Wright: Jerry is a pharmacist from Durant, Oklahoma and attends the 7th and Beech Church of Christ. Jerry will oversee “quality control” in the pharmacy. This is Jerry’s 4th Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Dianne Roberts: Dianne lives in Durant, Oklahoma and attends the 7th and Beech Church of Christ. She will be overseeing the painting of Winnie the Poo scenes in the bedrooms of the girl’s house at the children’s home. Dianne has been on six Nicaraguan Medical Missions.
Steve Felton: Steve is a medical assistant living in Durant, Oklahoma. He will be assisting the doctors on the medical mission. This is Steve’s second medical mission to Nicaragua. He works with Jeff Hamblin, P.A. in Durant.
Kara Felton: Kara is from Durant, Oklahoma. She will helping out in the children’s Bible classes. This is her first Medical Mission to Nicaragua.
Amber Hearn: Amber is from Durant, Oklahoma. She will be helping out in the children’s Bible classes. This is her first Medical Mission to Nicaragua.
Jeff Hamblin: Jeff is a physician’s assistant from Durant, Oklahoma. He is a veteran of Nicaragua Medical Missions with this being his 15th trip there. Jeff will be treating patients while in Nicaragua. Jeff also frequently does needed minor surgeries for the patients and helps organize our missionaries from Durant. He is the assistant medical director for the trip.
Susan Cartwright: Susan is from Durant, Oklahoma. She will be helping out in the pharmacy in Nicaragua. This is her first Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
John Cartwright: John is from Durant, Oklahoma. He will be helping out in the pharmacy while in Nicaragua. This is his first Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Cindy Norman: Cindy is a family practice physician from Duncan, Oklahoma. She is the medical director of the mission and will be treating patients while we are there. This is her 8th Nicaraguan medical mission. Cindy helps Abby aquire much of the medicine we take to service the sick in Nicaragua.
Gina Woods: Gina lives in Lawton, Oklahoma but originally is from Marlow. She will be working in the pharmacy while in Nicaragua. She is very excited to be going on her first Nicaraguan Medical Mission. Gina has a passion for children and benevolence and spreading the Gospel. She is a member at Tanglewood Bible Fellowship.
George Mastick: George is a retired teacher from Shawnee, Oklahoma. He will be working in the pharmacy in Nicaragua. This is his 3rd medical mission to Nicaragua.
Carolyn Mastick: Carolyn is a retired Spanish teacher from Shawnee, Oklahoma. She will be teaching in the children’s Bible Classes while in Nicaragua. This is her 3rd medical mission to Nicaragua.
Mona Still: Mona is a dental hygienist from Hope, Arkansas. She will be working very hard cleaning teeth on the mission trip. She has even written a skit on dental hygiene complete with teeth costumes that will be presented to the Nicaraguan children. This is her 8th Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Katie Ward: Katie is a banker from Georgia. She will be working with the children’s ministry while in Nicaragua. This is her first time to join our Nicaraguan Medical Mission. She was invited to this mission by her friend, Alex Quintero.
Alex Quintero: Alex is a native of Managua, Nicaragua who now lives in Denver, Colorado. He will be Dr. King’s translator on the mission trip. Alex has helped with Nicaraguan Medical missions for 15+ years. He recently graduated with his master’s degree from Harding University. He and his entire family have been great Christian friends of the King family and long time servants of the Lord’s Church in Nicaragua. He is also a first cousin of Erick Garcia, our administrator.
Katelyn Ledane: Katelyn is from Durant, Oklahoma. She will be working in our children’s ministry while in Nicaragua. This is her first time to join our Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Chase Mattson: Chase is a college student at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. He attends the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ in Duncan. Chase will be working on the construction crew while in Nicaragua. We are happy that Chase will be joining us for his first Nicaraguan Medical Mission.
Raquel Aburto: Raquel is from Managua, Nicaragua. She graduated from John Brown University in Saloam Springs, Arkansas with a degree in international business. She will be the translator for Jeff Hamblin, PA while in Nicaragua. She has helped with medical missions since she was a teenager and is a long time friend of the King family.
Karla Molina: Karla is from Managua, Nicaragua and speaks excellent English. She will be translating for the medical assistant, Steve Felton. She has helped out with medical missions for many, many years.
She is a member of the La Fuenta Iglesia de Cristo in Managua and also a long time friend of the Kings.
